Frequently Asked Questions
What are "Expired Domains"?
Expired domains are domains that were previously registered but the owner did not renew them. Once a domain expires and passes through the redemption period, it becomes available for anyone to register. These domains often retain their existing backlinks, domain authority, and search engine history, making them valuable for SEO purposes.
What does "In Redemption" mean?
When a domain expires, it enters a redemption period (typically 30 days) where the original owner can still reclaim it by paying a redemption fee to their registrar. During this time, the domain cannot be registered by anyone else. We track these domains because they may become available soon if the owner doesn't renew.
What does "Dropping Soon" mean?
After the redemption period ends, domains enter a pending delete status for approximately 5 days. After this period, the domain is released back to the public and can be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. "Dropping Soon" domains are in this final waiting period before becoming available.
What is Domain Authority (DA)?
Domain Authority is a score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). DA scores range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating greater ranking potential. A domain with DA 30+ is generally considered valuable. DA is calculated based on factors like linking root domains and total number of links.
What is Spam Score?
Spam Score is a metric from Moz that indicates the percentage of sites with similar features that have been penalized or banned by Google. A lower spam score is better. We recommend looking for domains with spam scores under 20%. High spam scores may indicate the domain has a history of spammy backlinks or was used for questionable purposes.
How do I register an expired domain?
Once you find an expired domain you want, you can register it through any domain registrar like Namecheap, GoDaddy, Porkbun, or Google Domains. Simply search for the domain on the registrar's website and complete the registration process. Expired domains are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so act quickly on desirable domains.
How often is the data updated?
We check zone files daily for .com, .net, and .org domains. New expired domains are added every day as they drop. Domain availability status is also refreshed regularly to ensure accuracy. The "Discovered" column shows when each domain was first found.
Why are some DA/Spam values missing?
DA and Spam Score data comes from the Moz API. If a domain is very new, was never crawled by Moz, or has no significant backlink profile, these metrics may not be available. Missing values are shown as "-". You can still evaluate these domains using other tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or by checking their history on archive.org.
